Deck and Fence Staining Around Barrie

Outdoor wood left alone goes grey, then starts to check and splinter as sun and water break down the surface. Stain slows this, but it has to get into clean, solid wood to do anything.

Decks, fences, pergolas and porches are washed first. Old stain that is peeling is stripped, a brightener brings the wood back towards its original colour, and then the wood is left to dry fully. From there you pick a clear, semi-transparent or solid stain, depending on how much grain you want to see and what shape the boards are in.

Fresh pressure-treated lumber is normally too wet to take stain for a while. We will check yours and tell you whether to go ahead or wait.

We provide deck and fence staining across Barrie, including Central Barrie, North Barrie and South Barrie. Call (705) 996-5068 for a free estimate.

Deck & Fence Staining questions

Deck & Fence Staining FAQs

Common questions about deck & fence staining.

How often does a deck need restaining?+
The boards you walk on go first, and a top-up every two to three years is common. Fences and other upright surfaces hold stain longer. The more transparent the stain, the sooner it needs another coat.
Paint or stain on a deck?+
Stain, for the boards. Paint forms a skin that foot traffic and trapped moisture lift off. On railings and skirting a solid stain or paint can work well.
Can a brand-new treated deck be stained?+
Not usually straight away, because the lumber is still wet. Sprinkle some water on it: if it beads, wait; if it soaks in, it is ready.
What conditions do you need?+
Dry wood, at least a day without rain ahead, and a temperature inside the range on the stain label.
Do you replace rotten boards?+
No, our work is the cleaning and finishing. Have a carpenter replace boards or framing first, and we will stain old and new together.
